Saturday 3rd June
The first of 2 two-day workshops from 10am – 4.30pm
Scrumptious Surfaces I – Machine Embroidery with Hand Embellishment (10 spaces available)
Led by Elly Holmes of West Country Embroiderers will be exploring and manipulating textile surfaces which participants will use to create new textiles to cover a notebook for use during the weeks’ activities, or simply leave as samples.

East Meets West I – Hand Embroidery (6 spaces available, suitable for all levels)
Led by Lyn Edwards of West Country Embroiderers explores some of the textile traditions of Japan to create a delightful drawstring box bag using Shashiko embroidery techniques.

Illustrated Talk by Kate Wigley with Cheese & Wine reception, 6pm
Join us for an illustrated talk on Kate’s personal experience within the heritage and design industries as she takes us through key aspects of her creative career working with museums (V&A, Museum of London); important heritage institutions (National Trust and English Heritage); and international design companies (Donghia, Zoffany), culminating in the recent launch of The School of Textiles and her own exclusive interior textile range.
Guests will be treated to taste the very best of West Cork farmhouse cheese making from the trailblazing cheeses of Milleens in the Beara Peninsula to the buffalo milk cheeses of Macroom. A story telling of each cheese will be accompanied by specially chosen wines matched by Curious Wines – a West Cork success story of adventures in wine.
Music on the night will be courtesy of Celtic Harpist Anja Bakker – renowned for her interpretations of medieval Celtic harp music as well as her own meditative compositions.

Sunday 4th June
Interwoven Pattern – Tea & Textiles on the Wild Atlantic Way
Join us from 2pm for an afternoon of talk, high tea, music and quizzing in the garden of Red Strand Design Studio.
Kate Wigley will give an illustrated talk exploring several centuries of European textiles and their design influences through trade and fashion. This will be followed by a beautifully indulgent High Tea from Diva Boutique Bakery of Ballinspittle complete with a coffee roasting demonstration by West Cork Coffee of a signature “Red Strand Design Roast” created especially for Red Strand Design Studio & Gallery. A light hearted table quiz and laid back Parisian-style jazz complete this relaxed and social afternoon beside the sea. Stay with us into the evening and enjoy the sunset over the Atlantic Ocean.

Monday 5th June
The second of 2 two-day workshops from 10am – 4.30pm
Scrumptious Surfaces II – Machine Embroidery with Hand Embellishment (10 spaces available)
Led by Elly Holmes, West Country Embroiderers exploring the fun properties of Faux Chenille – a rich soft-textured fabric, creating panels which can be made into cushions or other coverings.
East Meets West II – Hand Embroidery (6 spaces available)
Led by Lyn Edwards, West Country Embroiderers explores the rich traditions of Gujarat and Rajasthan in India. Using inspiration of colour and a collection of antique textiles to produce a unique sample book of traditional hand embroidery techniques or a finished miniature.
Talk & Workshop with Kate Wigley, 2 – 5.15pm (15 spaces available)
“Nature in Design: how nature and its forms have influenced design and designers”
An illustrated talk will be followed by a unique textile study session using items from the collection at The School of Textiles. The hands-on activity workshop will use archival designs as inspiration to then create your own unique piece.

Thursday & Friday, 8th & 9th June, 10am – 4.30pm (5.30pm finish on Thursday) (10 places available)
Design, Repeat, Print – 2-day Workshop led by Caroline Smith
Let Caroline Smith demystify the basics of producing and printing a professional repeat pattern by hand to create your own design for paper and fabric. Have fun experimenting with locally found inspiration and materials from both the seashore and woodlands as part of the design process for print. Workshop includes demonstration on how to make your own portable table-top textile print table which is suitable for any small space.
